4 Days Migration Western Corridor

Overview

By the end of April, the wildebeest migration begins to spread west across the vast plains, making its way toward the Seronera area in the central Serengeti and the Western Corridor. From April to May, the majority of the migration can typically be observed in the Seronera region or just south of it, in the southern plains. As June approaches, the bulk of the migration shifts to the Western Corridor, a narrow expanse that stretches from the west of Seronera to the border of the Western Serengeti National Park.

This corridor is notable for the dramatic river crossings at the Grumeti River, where the migrating herds are often compelled to navigate the waters as they journey northward from the southern plains. However, witnessing a river crossing is largely a matter of chance.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Serengeti National Park

We will embark on our journey from Arusha early in the morning, heading towards the breathtaking Serengeti National Park. Our route will take us along the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, providing excellent opportunities for wildlife sightings en route. The golden savannah and expansive plains, alive with zebras, wildebeest, and giraffes, highlight why the Serengeti is regarded as one of Africa’s Seven Natural Wonders.

We’ll pause for a picnic lunch at Naabai Kopje, a small rocky hill surrounded by the flatlands, where you might catch a glimpse of the Serengeti’s distinctive pink-headed lizards. After lunch, we’ll venture deeper into the plains for a leisurely game drive, immersing ourselves in the stunning landscapes. You’ll spend the night at the Serengeti Camp, where you can fall asleep to the playful sounds of zebras and hyenas. Dinner and overnight accommodation will be provided at the lodge.

Day 2: Central Serengeti to Western Serengeti

Following breakfast, we will journey towards the western expanse of Serengeti National Park, known as the Western Corridor. Along the way, we’ll enjoy a game drive as we transition from the Seronera area to the Western Corridor.

Upon arrival, we’ll settle in for lunch at the lodge before heading out for an afternoon game drive. Depending on rainfall patterns, the wildebeest migration can often be spotted in this region during June. Dinner and overnight accommodation will be arranged in the Western Corridor area, according to your chosen lodging preferences.

Day 3: Western Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

In the morning, we’ll enjoy one last game drive in the Serengeti before making our way to the Ngorongoro Crater. After an exciting morning filled with wildlife sightings and a picnic lunch, we will continue our journey to the crater.

Tonight, we’ll stay at Rhino Lodge, which overlooks the stunning, unbroken caldera of Ngorongoro Crater. The views of the sunset over the savannah are truly breathtaking. After a full day of adventure, guests can savor a delicious dinner and enjoy an overnight stay at Rhino Lodge.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

After an early breakfast, we will head into Ngorongoro Crater, as this is the ideal time to spot wildlife. Today, we will embark on a game drive around the crater and stop for a picnic lunch by a small lake, home to numerous hippos and migratory birds, ensuring a delightful experience for all.

The crater’s unique ecosystem creates an “animal oasis,” providing a high likelihood of encountering all members of the Big Five: the fierce lion, majestic elephant, elusive leopard, powerful rhino, and formidable water buffalo. Ngorongoro Crater is truly a remarkable destination, with beautiful storks, ibises, and cranes adding to the rich avian life. After a memorable afternoon of wildlife sightings, we will begin our journey back to Arusha.
